On March 16th, the City of East Point hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Chief Rosemary Roberts Cloud Fire Station and Safety Training Facility, also known as East Point Fire Station No.4. This fire station honors Chief Rosemary Cloud who made history on April 2, 2002, as the first Black Female Fire Chief in the City of East Point and in the United States. Chief Cloud served as the Fire Chief in East Point for 12 years. Remarks at the ceremony were made by Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham, Councilwoman Sharon Shropshire, Deputy Fire Chief William Tate, and Chief Rosemary Cloud.
The Chief Rosemary Roberts Cloud Fire Station & Safety Training Facility is a $3.25 million dollar project. The 12,000 square foot facility is located at 2222 Ben Hill Road and will consist of four engine bays. A manufactured burn facility will also serve as a training location for Firefighters. Construction is expected to be finished in the Winter of 2019.
