The East Point Parks & Recreation Department was also awarded a $10,000 Rise Up 159 Flag Football Mini Grant from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation in partnership with the Georgia Foundation for Public Health and Georgia Shape. These grant funds will be utilized to support the East Point Parks & Recreation Youth Flag Football Program.
The East Point Police Department was awarded the 2017 Body-Worn Camera Policy Implementation Program Grant from the United States Department of Justice. The police department will receive a $53,311 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) with a required match of $53,311 from the City for a total project of $106,622. The grant will be used to purchase and issue 68 body-worn cameras to East Point Police Officers. The department will also implement a DOJ approved Body-Worn Camera Policy instructing officers on the use of the camera system.
The East Point Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a $200,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The Parks and Recreation Department will receive $100,000 from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources with a required match of $100,000 from the City for a project total of $200,000. The grant will be used to make park improvements at Connally Nature Park to include the installation of a trail with connectivity to the East Point PATH Model Mile, Sumner Park and the Velodrome.
