On Friday, January 25, 2019, the Food Bank broke ground on its new headquarters with a ceremony that brought together members of the Food Bank’s board and staff, partners, donors, community members, elected officials, and dignitaries from its 29-county service area to commemorate this new chapter.
“Motivated by the knowledge that relieving hunger has the power to change the trajectory of a person’s life,” said Kyle Waide, President and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, “we are driven to grow our response to ongoing food insecurity by closing the hunger gap and ensuring all children and families have access to the healthy, nutritious food they need to thrive.”
Attendees at the ceremony included Commissioner Gary Black from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and public officials from the City of East Point.
The Food Bank’s new location sits at the intersection of Redwine Rd. and Desert Dr. in East Point, GA, and will be easily accessible through the Marta Bus Route and Interstate 285. The expected opening of the new building is currently scheduled to take place between the summer of 2019 and the spring of 2020. As the project progresses, the Food Bank will continue to operate as usual.
