Myron B. Cook and his wife moved to East Point from Atlanta in 1974.He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration/Minor in Economics from Morehouse College. Upon graduation he served his U.S. Army military obligation in the Republic of South Korea as an NCO in the Military Police.
His professional career began at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia where he served as one of six managers in the claims division. He later moved into Facilities and Administrative management. The skill set developed at Blue Cross allowed a smooth transition to becoming the Assistant Property Manager responsible for operations at Greenbriar Mall. He retired from this position during the first quarter of 2009.
In recent years he has been an enthusiastic career day program participant for many of the schools in the South Fulton schools system most notably Paul D. West Middle school.
His tenure as a Planning and Zoning commissioner gave him tremendous insight into the accountability of the city council as it relates to short and long term land use planning.
2016 will begin his third term in office as the City Council member for Ward C. During his tenure he has served on the Budget Committee for several years and as the Prov. Mayor Pro Tem for two terms. He also served on the Task Force that was instrumental in helping to pass the ordinance implementing the Storm Water Utility.
As an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. he understands that you do not have to be an elected official to be of service to your community. Age, education or income will never replace simple desire and commitment to serve.
