Emergency Medical Services
Staff Personnel
The East Point Fire Department currently employs 61 certified Emergency Medical Technicians and 17 certified Paramedics who are trained in basic and advance life support. These firefighters function under Dr. Lloyd the Medical Director. The Medical Director provides training and supervises medical protocols.

Emergency Equipment
The East Point Fire Department has paramedics assigned to all of the engines to ensure patients receive the highest level of care. Currently there are four Advance Life Support (ALS) engines and two Rescue Units, which are only in service when staffing permits, that respond to over 4,611 calls for emergency services yearly.

Automatic External Defibrillator
The East Point Fire Department conducted a needs assessment to determine the need for Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to aid in the delivery of medical care for staff, citizens and visitors to different city facilities. The AED is a device endorsed by the American Heart Association and it is used to shock the heart into a rhythm when someone goes into cardiac arrest. The Fire Department has four Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) that are placed on every engine in the City.

EMS Training
The majority of EMS training is conducted in-house. The Medical Director has given over 100 hours of in-service training on Emergency Medical Services, which is far more than the 40 hours required by the State of Georgia.

There are now over 20 certified CPR Instructors who aid in efficient community training and annual re-certification. These instructors are also able to certify people in first aid and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

EMS Quality Assurance Committee
The purpose of this committee is to ensure patient care is administered correctly and documented properly in order to maintain a high level standard of care and to keep pace with new medical advances. The committee reviews patient documentation, protocols, makes suggestions and recommendations to management regarding new and current medical equipment and medications.
