Downtown Architectural Overlay District
In order to provide for the protection and enhancement of the Downtown Architectural Overlay District, the City adopted a resolution that regulates the design, aesthetics, location, size, etc. of buildings and structures. In addition, the resolution was created to raise the level of community understanding and expectations for quality in the built environment, to protect and enhance local aesthetic and functional qualities, and to stimulate business and promote economic development. The Downtown District, governed by the Downtown Architectural Overlay Board (DARB) is defined as select “CR” zoned properties identified in blue as illustrated in this map:

Downtown Architectural Review Board

The City of East Point established a nine member Downtown Architectural Review Board (DARB) to review plans for development in the Downtown Architectural Overlay District for compliance with standards detailed in the overlay guidelines and shall make recommendations to the Department of Planning and Zoning prior to the approval of the Land Disturbance Permit or Building Permit.

The board appointees must have either maintained a primary residence for at least one year in the City of East Point or have owned a business open for at least one year located within the Downtown Architectural Overlay District. In addition, Board Members should possess demonstrated knowledge, training and/or experience in at least one of the following areas: Architecture, landscape architecture, planning, zoning, real estate development, economic development, or related fields.

The board meets as needed to review projects or whenever the Chair calls a meeting to discuss board related items. Meetings begin at 6:30pm, unless otherwise posted, at Jefferson Station Council Chambers (1526 East Forrest Ave, Suite 400).

Architectural Review Board Agendas and Minutes
Agendas are available prior to regular scheduled meeting. The minutes from each meeting are approved by the Board at their next scheduled meeting and will be posted at that time.
