Frederick D. Gardiner was sworn in as City Manager for the City of East Point on December 1, 2014. Gardiner is tasked with managing daily operations of the City’s government which is comprised of 11 departments, and more than 500 employees.

Gardiner has enjoyed a lengthy career in various capacities of local government working in areas of economic development, planning and zoning, as well as city management. Prior to joining the City of East Point, Gardiner served as City Administrator in McDonough, Georgia for two and a half years.

In 2004, he was appointed as Development Services Director in Griffin, Georgia where he is credited with the success of several initiatives that resulted in the City’s economic growth and expansion. During his more than 20 years in the public sector, Gardiner has also worked as Director of Planning and Zoning for Henry County, Georgia; as Neighborhood Renewal Administrator in Decatur, Illinois; and he’s worked seven years in the Bahamas with the Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation.

He is one who believes a government’s greatest asset is its employees, and manages from a perspective of team building and buy in. Gardiner attained both a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Alabama A&M University. He also is a graduate of the Georgia Academy for Economic Development and the Carl Vinson Institute – Management Development Program.
