The City of East Point’s water supply is safe for consumption, and meets all current regulatory criteria set forth by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as indicated in the City’s Annual Water Quality Report.

Out of an abundance of caution, we recently obtained and tested water samples from East Point’s Water Treatment Plant and a private resident to ensure the safety and integrity of the City of East Point's water supply. Specifically, these samples were sent to TestAmerica Laboratories, Inc., for a hexavalent chromium analysis, based on the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 218.6. The results were in compliance with the EPA regulations, and were found to be well below the current EPA drinking water standard of 100 ug/L for total chromium.

Currently, the EPA is researching a drinking water standard for hexavalent chromium, based on new scientific research, and the results are expected in late 2011. East Point will ensure that its standards are in accordance with the EPA’s policy on hexavalent chromium, once established.

It should be noted that the City of East Point continues to remain in compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and is not required to comply with the goals or standards established by California or any state other than Georgia.
